 Un modo sicuramente moderno, innovativo e originale per diffondere in maniera capillare i principi della buona e sana alimentazione. E’ la dottoressa Luigina Pugliese, biologa nutrizionista specializzata in Scienze dell’alimentazione, la protagonista di questo nuovo approfondimento scientifico. Gli Omega-3 sono acidi grassi “essenziali”, indispensabili per vivere ma che non possono essere prodotti a sufficienza dal nostro organismo. Devono essere assunti necessariamente attraverso l’alimentazione.

 Dobbiamo, quindi, integrarli nella nostra dieta con alimenti come noci, nocciole, mandorle, cereali, semi di chia e di lino, oli vegetali. Sono inoltre presenti nelle alghe, nei fagioli, nei piselli, nelle lenticchie, nei ceci e nella soia. La fonte principale è però il pesce, in particolare: acciughe, sardine, sgombro, salmone, tonno, pesce spada, halibut e krill. Perciò se ne raccomanda un consumo di almeno due volte a settimana. L’assunzione quotidiana di un integratore di Omega-3 è, comunque, consigliabile. Numerosi studi suggeriscono che gli Omega-3 possano essere utili nel trattamento di diversi disturbi.

 Diversi lavori suggeriscono che sia l’Epa che il Dha contenuti nei pesci marini e nelle microalghe contribuiscano a ridurre i fattori di rischio cardiovascolare. Epa e Dha contrasterebbero tassi di trigliceridi e di colesterolo Ldl (il cosiddetto colesterolo “cattivo”), ridurrebbero la pressione sanguigna e ostacolerebbero la formazione e lo sviluppo delle placche aterosclerotiche che, ostruendo le arterie, possono causare infarti e ictus. Non solo, alcuni studi hanno rilevato una riduzione del rischio di morte, di attacchi di cuore e di ictus in pazienti reduci da infarto che abbiano assunto quotidianamente una dose adeguata di Epa e Dha. 

 LO STUDIO INUIT

Negli anni ’70 in uno studio sugli Inuit, la popolazione nativa della Groenlandia, i ricercatori hanno osservato che, benché l’alimentazione di questa popolazione fosse molto ricca di grassi, gli Inuit avevano un cuore più sano e una salute migliore degli altri europei. Qual è stata la scoperta? I grassi presenti nella dieta degli Inuit provenivano principalmente da balene, foche, salmoni e altri animali marini, tutti ricchi di acidi grassi Omega-3.
